Because He first loved us…

“…I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you.” –Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV)

LOVE – comes in different forms and in different ways. Love can come in the form of giving to those who are in need, sharing a meal with a friend, or simply giving a hug to a loved one. Love can be between friends, lovers, or families. But at the same time, love can also mean risking ourselves of getting hurt. After all, no one is perfect. We all have flaws and we all make mistakes…

BUT there is One whose love never fails. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” [Romans 5:8] Instead of condemnation and eternal separation, God gave His only Son to make us right with Him and to give us eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. In His love, we find comfort and hope. In His love, we find peace and joy. In His love, we find our identity and completeness. And there is nothing that will ever compare to the Father’s love manifested through Jesus.

Through His Son Jesus, we are accepted in Him [see Ephesians 1:6]. We are the apple of His eye [see Zechariah 2:8]. We are His masterpiece, “created in Christ Jesus to do good works” [see Ephesians 2:10]. We are complete in Him [see Colossians 2:10]. We are forgiven, “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” [see 1 John 1:9] Not only that! God cares about every detail in our lives, “Cast all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you” [see 1 Peter 5:7]. He only wants the best for us, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you…” [see Isaiah 48:17] He corrects us and disciplines us because He loves us and it affirms that we are His children [see Hebrews 12:5-12].

We may live in an imperfect world with imperfect people but we have a perfect God who has loved us from the beginning and will love us throughout eternity. And there is nothing we can do more or less that would change His love for us. Our Father loves us unconditionally – PERIOD. So, “we love because He first loved us” [1 John 4:19].

In Christ,

Justine Anne
